The Future of Digital Advertising
Adweek just posted their list of the biggest digital advertising trends for 2017. They’ve based their data predominantly on Mary Meeker’s annual report. The biggest takeaways are that mobile advertising has the largest audience, shorter ads are typically better across all platforms, Millennials are still on Facebook and the obvious one: consumers are annoyed by online ads. Another concern is that 400 million users globally block ads served on the mobile web compared with 200 million desktop users. So while mobile advertising has blown up, an argument can be made for desktop advertising using these statistics. Social app platforms are going to be the future of advertising dollars. Chat apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat and Shapchat have grown exponentially compared to the site-based social software like Instagram and Twitter.
